Spain

Madrid · Barcelona · the Balearics

The Spanish moves Putney runs are not the Costa del Sol retirement specialism (that is Removals Manchester's lane) and not the Torrevieja working-coast move (that is Removals Romford's catchment). What we do is the cosmopolitan Spanish move: Madrid for tech and finance, Barcelona for professional-creative work and lifestyle, Mallorca and Menorca for the family lifestyle the SW London household has been building toward.

MADRID · NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAZA

If your move is to the Costa del Sol — Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola — we will refer you to Removals Manchester. If it is to inland Andalusia or Extremadura, our sister site Removals Sevenoaks is the better-shaped specialist. Honest framing at survey.

The Putney → Spain moves we cover have a clear pattern. The destination is a city centre or a Balearic island, not a costa. The customer is making a career-driven or family-lifestyle decision, not a retirement-pipeline decision. The customs paperwork sits the same way as France or Italy; the practical differences are at the destination address.

The Putney → Spain pattern

Three moves we run, three stories that fit.

Each pattern is a real shape we have moved households along — survey-tested timing, destination-tested access.

01

Madrid tech and finance corridor relocations

Madrid has become a serious tech and finance hub — the international banks and the late-stage tech companies have substantial Madrid offices, and the destination side of the corporate move is well-resourced. The Madrid destination property is usually in Salamanca, Chamberí, Chamartín or the Las Tablas tech-corridor. We brief the destination crew on the city-centre access (often fifth-floor walkup, often single staircase) and survey the Putney end for the consignment plan.

02

Barcelona professional and lifestyle moves

Barcelona is the other Spanish destination Putney moves to consistently. The pattern is mixed: tech professionals taking roles in the Barcelona corridor, design and architecture professionals making the lifestyle-and-career combined move, families who want the city + sea + school combination. Destination property in Eixample, Gràcia, Sant Gervasi, or Sarrià. We survey both ends.

03

Mallorca and Menorca family lifestyle moves

The Balearic family move is distinct from the costa move. Mallorca's interior — Sóller, Deià, the Tramuntana villages — and Menorca's smaller-town interior are family-lifestyle destinations rather than retirement destinations. Remote work makes the move practical for one or both working partners; the international school in Palma serves the school-age family. We coordinate the Mediterranean-crossing logistics (Barcelona ferry route to Palma, or direct shipping into Palma) into the move plan.

Regions covered

Destinations within Spain we move to from SW London.

  • Madrid — Salamanca, Chamberí, Chamartín, Pozuelo, Las Tablas
  • Barcelona — Eixample, Gràcia, Sant Gervasi, Sarrià
  • Bilbao and the Basque corporate corridor
  • Mallorca — Palma, Sóller, Deià, the Tramuntana villages

What you will need

For the customs side and the residency-evidence pack.

  • NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) — obtainable in London in advance
  • Spanish destination address proof (purchase contract or rental)
  • Recent UK address proof
  • Detailed household inventory — prepared at survey
  • Visa or evidence of EU-national status for residency-evidence purposes
Mid-career life stages we work with

Who moves to Spain from Putney.

Pre-school family lifestyle

Couples in their thirties — partnered, often with a baby or pre-school-age child — making the lifestyle move before the family geography settles into a school catchment. Provence, the Italian lakes, Cascais, Mallorca-interior. Considered timing, often hand-in-hand with one partner moving to partial-remote work.

Banking, finance and tech corporate relocation

The career-driven mid-life move. Paris, Milan, Madrid, Lisbon for the role; central-city destination property typically with the corporate side handling the housing and visa; our side runs the household.

School-age family considered move

Family with primary or early-secondary children making the move before secondary commitments lock in. The school admissions calendar is the gating constraint. Cascais (international school), Milan and Madrid (international schools), Paris and Lisbon (international or bilingual schools). Considered, paced, well-planned.

Customs and paperwork

How the Spain customs side works.

  • ToR relief: standard EU transfer-of-residence framework. We file the UK ToR1 and the Spanish Aduana declaration.
  • Spanish customs require NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) for the declaration — we ask for this at quote stage. Obtainable through the Spanish consulate in London in advance of the move, or through your destination-side gestor.
  • Padrón registration at the destination Spanish town hall is a separate post-move task; not required for the customs side but expected for establishing residence formally.
  • Vehicle import to Spain: ToR-eligible, but Spanish re-registration is paperwork-intensive — we refer to a specialist where customers prefer.

Spain testimonials

From Putney households who made the move.

Mid-career move with three children and a tight school window. The survey at our Putney flat was substantive — they wanted to understand the household before quoting. The written quote held to the number. Madrid destination access was the unknown variable; the Putney team had briefed the destination crew on the fifth-floor walk-up and the unload sequencing reflected that. It went the way it was supposed to.

The Allardyce family

East Putney → Madrid — Chamberí

Mallorca interior, not the costa. The Putney team understood the difference at survey — village access via the Sóller tunnel and onto narrow streets requires a planned shuttle vehicle and a paced unload. They did the customs paperwork properly with our NIE on file. The crew that loaded at Roehampton was the crew that unloaded at Sóller; we appreciated the continuity.

Frequent Spain-specific questions

The things people ask before a Spain move.

We are moving to Madrid for a tech role. What is the destination access like?

Central Madrid addresses — Salamanca, Chamberí, Chamartín — are commonly fifth or sixth-floor apartments in older blocks with limited service-lift capacity. The destination side requires careful unload sequencing and sometimes a shuttle-vehicle for the final leg if street access is narrow. We brief the destination crew at quote stage so the access plan is set.

Mallorca interior — the village access is narrow. How does that work?

A shuttle vehicle for the last leg from a Mallorca depot to the village address. The written move plan documents whether the shuttle is needed and the implication for the move-day schedule. Sóller, Deià, the Tramuntana villages — all require this in practice.

You said you do not run Costa del Sol moves. Why?

Honest specialism. Removals Manchester runs a dedicated Costa del Sol retirement specialism (Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola). Their depot infrastructure, destination contacts, and customer base is built around that corridor. Our customer is the SW-London-professional moving to a city or a Balearic; we are the better fit for that profile, Manchester is the better fit for Costa del Sol. We refer at survey if needed.

Can we ship the family car alongside the household?

Yes — a UK-registered car owned for six months or more qualifies for ToR alongside the household goods. Spanish re-registration on Spanish plates is a separate post-move task with the Tráfico authority. We refer to a specialist where the customer prefers, or coordinate directly.
